Abstract

Internet Data Collection, as the title indicates, is a methodological manual for researchers interested in employing the Internet to gather data. The authors note the growing popularity of this relatively new research medium but caution against its many technical and methodological pitfalls. They address broad research design and technical issues in an effort bto inform researchers of the options available to them for collecting data on the Internet and the implications of choosing [among] them ... [with] an emphasis ... on explaining how various decisions can affect the quality of the information amassedQ (p. 4). The broad scope of the book ranges from explaining elementary issues of how the Internet works to discussing various methods of employing the Internet in data collection, and offering specific recommendations for procedures for each method.
